Tot School: Letter R

{This post contains affiliate links, please see my disclosure policy.}

Letter Rr has been out for way too long.  Our Tot School has been put on hold a bit since I have to rest and elevate my arm after breaking it a couple of weeks ago, but I got Ss out this week to try to change things up for my patient boy.  I am real thankful that I have all our letters organized in envelopes — it has helped me immensely with trying to get his new letter out, and also to at least do a few Thanksgiving activities (probably won’t have a Tot School post on it though).  You can check out my post on how I organize our letters and themed printables here.

Bible verse of the week:

He is my rock and there is no unrighteousness in Him.  Psalm 92:15

We use the ABC bible verse songs from Songs for Saplings.  These songs are so catchy, beautiful, not “children’s music annoying,” and I find myself singing and learning and memorizing the bible verses along with John.  Carisa at 1plus1plus1equals1 has made coordinating ABC Bible Verses posters which have really helped with his memorization as well.

Book of the week:

This sweet book is a classic about sharing — there are many in this series, but we just have the original.

Letter of the week: Rr

We put up our bible verse, an Rr small poster from Tot School, a Rr sign from my Kindergarten teaching days, and these wonderful Montessori sandpaper letters above John’s table.  We put these up on the wall so he could feel the letter every morning and trace his fingers on the letter.  We have a little bin with his R folder and Bible too.  To the right is our poem for the week from my Free Robert Louis Stevenson Printables, a Rainbow song (see below), and his alphabet from the Busy Hands post at 1+1+1=1.

Our curriculum consists of 1plus1plus1equals1‘s Tot School ABC’s.

We put a letter collection on our refrigerator too, including our beloved LeapFrog letters.

We didn’t complete many printables this week.  But my son liked completing pages about the rainforest with his beloved Do-A-Dot markers :)

My sister gave my son these sweet National Geographic Little Kids magazines for John’s birthday. He loves getting them in the mail. And this month focused on rainforests! It was perfect.

Bible Story

Of course, R is for Rainbow invokes the need to read Noah’s Ark!

We read the bible story in our books and with our felt and watched the movie.  Then we sang a sweet song from Bible Fun For Kids and used her printable to make an easy rainbow.

We also made a paper plate and streamer project to dance with.

And we colored a rainbow with crayons!

We dipped a paintbrush in vinegar and stuck cut pieces of colorful tissue paper!  When we peeled the tissue off , it wasn’t quite as colorful as I’d hoped — it wasn’t the Spectra bleeding kind, but John thought it was fun!  Walking by the Way gave us this idea :)

This isn’t really a craft, but my kids loved playing together and coloring in a big cardboard box!
