Here are our favorite preschool books for the letter Uu!  We love visiting the library and finding new books each week! Reading takes a huge priority in our home — we like to read every morning, noon, and night!  Children will love to read if we give them the tools — I hope this list is helpful to you! My four year old son is incorporating beginning sounds with words all the time — and the reason is because he reads.  We read together, and he reads on his own.  Even looking at the pictures, generating the storyline in his head, and looking at letters — this is reading.  Reading opens a world of imagination and creativity for our children. We are still floating through the alphabet, though in a more relaxed way, and one of the main reasons why we focus on one letter at a time is to find new books from our home library or city’s library.  I will usually collect a small stack of books and read them at breakfast time and try to emphasize the beginning of words. We cycle through the small stack throughout the week during meal or other quiet times in the day. This is a fun way to read new books and reinforce some beginning sound phonics work. Reading benefits a child’s mind, a child’s speech, a child’s life. You can read more about why reading is one of the most important things you can do with your baby or child at 10 reasons to read to your child.  And I am making a preschool list for all of our favorite books from A to Z.  I hope you and your child enjoy our children’s books selections for letter Uu! {This post contains affiliate links, please see my disclosure policy.}

Our list for the Best Preschool Books for Letter Uu

The Umbrella by Beth Ferry In a dreary town where it always rains, a little girl and her dog discover an unexpected way to spread the light. Told with surprise and humor, here is a story of generosity, perseverance, and the way that happiness can be contagious—all it takes is one person and a bright idea.

The Big Umbrella by Amy June Bates and Juniper Bates By the door there is an umbrella. It is big. It is so big that when it starts to rain there is room for everyone underneath. It doesn’t matter if you are tall. Or plaid. Or hairy. It doesn’t matter how many legs you have. Don’t worry that there won’t be enough room under the umbrella. Because there will always be room.

The Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Andersen An ugly and unloved duckling turns out to be a beautiful swan.

Underpants for Ants by Russell Punter A humorously illustrated picture book for beginner readers – great fun to read aloud together. The ants are feeling a bit chilly – can Mouse help with her knitting skills? With simple rhyming text and phonic repetition specially designed to develop essential language and early reading skills. Unicorns Don’t Love Sparkles by Lucy Rowland Unicorn likes a lot of things… just not exactly the same ones as everyone else does, and now it’s his birthday… oh no! What awful surprises might his friends have in store?

The Upside Down Detective Agency by Ellie Hattie Stop, thief! Someone has stolen the diamond warp drive from Lady Velocity Speed’s car! Without it, she’ll never win the big race! Can super-sleuthing sloths Stanley and Stella crack the case? Maybe… with some help from YOU! Jump into the action with this interactive story by spotting visual clues within the intricate illustrations.

Unicorns in Uniforms and Other Tales by Russell Punter & Leslie Sims This collection of phonics stories is perfect for a read-aloud or a beginner reader. Stories include Unicorns in Uniforms, Flamingo Plays Bingo, Lizard in a Blizzard, Poodle Draws Doodle, Weasels with Measles, and Axolotl Finds a Bottle.

Upside-Down Sid by Dylan Shearsby Sid spends most of his time at home. He is upside down, so it’s easier that way. Until, one day, a basketball lands in his breakfast and changes everything. A book about accepting our differences and the positive ripple effect of including others.
