best bibles for kids

We have read the Bible with our children since they were infants. Hiding God’s word in their hearts is the most important work that we can do as parents! There are so many children’s Bibles out there that it is often difficult to sift through which are most theologically sound for children. Here are, currently, my…

living books for emergent readers: I Can Read! American history books

“Children benefit from working steadily through well-chosen books,” Susan Schaeffer Macaulay writes in her book, For the Children’s Sake: Foundations of Education for Home and School, a summary of Charlotte Mason’s philosophy of education. And how true this is! When we give children the opportunity to read life-giving books, and ask them to share their…

creating a simple unit study

Children are interested in learning about exciting and engaging topics.  They simply need the resources to further investigate their interests.  Unit studies will help a child grasp seemingly mature topics — even at a very young age.  My son is soaking up stories from Greek Myths right now through using the books and hands-on learning ideas that…

Beautiful poetry books for children

Every afternoon, we set a blanket out on the floor (or in the summer, outside) and we read.  The children ask for the poetry first.  Then we will often move into our Language Lesson, Bible reading, or read-aloud novel.  This time is the most joyful in my days.  I am so thankful to read beautiful…

Art is not something I’m familiar with. Growing up, I thrived in theater and music, but never art. Unfortunately, I always felt like “I wasn’t good” or “that’s not my thing.” I’m sad about this! Since homeschooling my children, I’ve come to realize that I’m indeed a wonderful artist!! I can draw plants and bumblebees and even an octopus! I just need a bit of time, good materials, and a good teacher.
