Living books to teach high moral character for mid-elementary with strong male protagonists

My son always has a literature and history book going. At first, he would orally narrate his books, now he write a one page written narration about what he read! He has enjoyed most of these, though he is a reluctant reader at heart — he’s my tough one! But these awesome living books with…

You can find…

Movement & sensory tools in Waldorf & Charlotte Mason homeschool

Children need to move all day long! They cannot be expected to sit or stand in one place for more than ten or so minutes (longer time can of course be expected as children grow older). But as for my seven year old, I will continue to keep our lessons short and engaging! The Waldorf…

living books for emergent readers: I Can Read! American history books

“Children benefit from working steadily through well-chosen books,” Susan Schaeffer Macaulay writes in her book, For the Children’s Sake: Foundations of Education for Home and School, a summary of Charlotte Mason’s philosophy of education. And how true this is! When we give children the opportunity to read life-giving books, and ask them to share their…

Understanding your child’s learning style and differentiating homeschool instruction

Differentiating instruction for homeschool is important for parents to feel confident with, so they can continue their important work of teaching and learning alongside their child. I include questions about differentiation in a free printable you can download at the bottom of this post. I taught full day kindergarten. It was painful to try to…

Happy Monday friends! I'm so excited to share a copy of this lovely book with one of you.
Art is not something I’m familiar with. Growing up, I thrived in theater and music, but never art. Unfortunately, I always felt like “I wasn’t good” or “that’s not my thing.” I’m sad about this! Since homeschooling my children, I’ve come to realize that I’m indeed a wonderful artist!! I can draw plants and bumblebees and even an octopus! I just need a bit of time, good materials, and a good teacher.
