This can be hard work! It’s best to make this a short, yet playful and uplifting time! You…

Why is rhyming an important skill? {free printable: 18 nursery rhymes}

Rhyming is a core element in developing phonemic awareness for a child. And it is a fun way for a child to recognize sounds and patterns within words. How to Teach Vowel Sounds

Teaching vowel sounds using fun hand motions When I began teaching kindergarten, I discovered that children can have a very difficult time distinguishing between their vowel sounds. This is to be expected! Consonants are much easier to teach and learn. A “Ss” sound and a “Mm” sound are both very different in their sound and…

First Phonics Readers {Books 7 – 10}

The First Phonics Readers were designed to build my son’s confidence as he was first learning to combine letter sounds.  It seems that all too often, the (wonderful) phonics readers out there jump into three-letter-word sentences.  I wanted to create a set of books that he could be successful reading! What are the First Phonics Readers?…

Happy Monday friends! I'm so excited to share a copy of this lovely book with one of you.
Art is not something I’m familiar with. Growing up, I thrived in theater and music, but never art. Unfortunately, I always felt like “I wasn’t good” or “that’s not my thing.” I’m sad about this! Since homeschooling my children, I’ve come to realize that I’m indeed a wonderful artist!! I can draw plants and bumblebees and even an octopus! I just need a bit of time, good materials, and a good teacher.
