how to use the montessori alphabet box

I shared how to make a Montessori Alphabet Box a little while back.  You can check out all the details on what box we use and what supplies we have for this important phonics learning time. Each letter has its own little box full of objects that begin with that sound.  Today, I am happy to…

Home Preschool: Letter C

If you can’t tell already, our Home Preschool has gone at a very slooow pace this summer!  I love it though!  We are enjoying each other, and most importantly, I am letting my son lead his play and learning time!!  This is not to say that I am not intentional about “school” because I am,…

Early Literacy Stages eBook

Do you find it overwhelming to navigate through blogs or Pinterest for literacy activities? Do you find that all of the alphabet and reading activities seem to inter-mingle?   Are you confused about where to begin with simple learning activities for your child? I wrote the Early Literacy Stages eBook to make sense of some of…

reggio inspired learning about shapes

I rarely get to see my (almost!) four year old son and my (almost!) two year old daughter playing nicely together.  Dare I say collaborating?  It simply doesn’t happen around here.  Just trying to keep them both alive.  But the more I’ve brought nature into our home, small parts into our play, and allowed their…

making letters with play dough

Tactically creating letters is one of the best ways for children to begin learning their letter names and sounds.  Making letters with play dough provides valuable hands on and sensory exploration for little ones!  Here are five ways to learn letters using play dough…. I set up an invitation to play with the intent on…

frog & turtle sensory bin

I am excited to share my Frog & Turtle Sensory Bin post I wrote over at Hip Homeschool Moms, where I am a Team Member!!  Head on over and check it out!! My children have seen an abundance of frogs and turtles this summer. In the yard, at the pond.  And while I’d love (err)…

reggio inspired preschool math

My son loves counting.  He loves math.  We count things all day.  Legos, spoons, blocks, books, his little sister’s dolls. We try to count to 30 every morning as part of our recitation for home preschool.  We also focus on a number each week.  We place that number in a basket, talk about the number, and…

How to make a Felt Crab {ABC Felt Animals}

I am creating a felt animal for my son for every letter of the alphabet in a new series: ABC Felt Animals {check out all my posts here}!  We have had so much fun making these animals together — and they are helping him learn the phonetic sounds of the letters, so it has been…

best preschool books for the letter Cc

Reading is so important for littles ones.  We try to start and finish our days with great big piles of books. For our letter of the week, I will usually find a small stack of books and read them at breakfast time and try to emphasize the “Cc” at the beginning of words.  We cycle…

lavender fizzy sensory dough

Today is the seventh month for the 12 Months of Sensory Dough series!! I did not know what to do for “Fizzy Dough”, but we made a volcano back in our Letter V Tot School, so I took the easy route and went with a good ol’ baking soda and vinegar chemical reaction.  Check out the other…

Home Preschool: Letter B

I am taking our Home Preschool much easier than our Tot School days.  With two little ones, it is difficult to fit everything in that I have in mind!  May (my almost-two year old) and John (my preschooler almost four-year old) are my pupils.  They are always together, so May tags along except during nap…

best preschool books for the letter Bb

We love books in our house.  We have piles and baskets and shelves and more baskets full of children’s and baby board books.  I have been making better use of our library, but going there only seems to feed my desire to buy the books for myself.  “Oh that was such a wonderful book, I…

Happy Monday friends! I'm so excited to share a copy of this lovely book with one of you.
Art is not something I’m familiar with. Growing up, I thrived in theater and music, but never art. Unfortunately, I always felt like “I wasn’t good” or “that’s not my thing.” I’m sad about this! Since homeschooling my children, I’ve come to realize that I’m indeed a wonderful artist!! I can draw plants and bumblebees and even an octopus! I just need a bit of time, good materials, and a good teacher.
