Merry Christmas Sensory Bin

I am so excited about this Christmas Sensory Bin!  I got to go to Target yesterday for the first time in two months (woh), now that I’m able to drive again!  I was headed there to buy some weights (1 and 2 pounders ha) for physical therapy on my arm.  But wow was I distracted…

rainbows & racecars {with homemade edible paint}

I am thrilled to have a guest post over at Teaching Mama today!  Today I am sharing a post that is very near and dear to me — we played with this homemade, edible paint the morning of my arm break! It is bittersweet to see these pictures — knowing that I won’t be able…

Painting with little feet

All you need for this easy activity is a long roll of paper (ours is from Ikea) and paint (we use Tempera paint — I have a huge collection left over from my Kindergarten teaching days). And of course you need some sweet little feet that are excited to get messy :) My son loved…

Fizzy Ocean Sensory Bin

{This post may contain affiliate links, please see my disclosure policy.}  Since we just finished O week, I wanted it to end with a “bang”!  Or a “fizz”!  And Asia at Fun at Home with Kids had the most incredible idea!!  I love all the hands-on, sensorial ideas on her site and I knew my son…

shaving cream in the backyard

To say my son likes shaving cream would be an understatement. We brought the fun outside, in our baby pool. He had his trucks and some spoons and bowls. This was on a really hot day so we had a water fight afterwards. Easy clean up. He covered himself with the shaving cream from head…

baby play: rings in water

Last week was very hot, and we had the sprinkler and baby pool out all day, every day, though, we really only ventured out in the mornings.  I wanted to have a few extra fun activities for John and May.  I gave May a bowl of water and added assorted rings to it, along with…

sensory play with gelatin

{This post may contain affiliate links, please see my disclosure policy.}  Our sensory play this week was inspired by the Fourth of July. (Well, it’s blue, and that is about all that is related, so it’s a stretch.) And I hid some dinosaurs in it. (For no other reason besides I had them.) I found this…

Preschool Squishy Bag Activity

I have seen this on so many cute blogs, Play at Home Mom and Sugar Aunts, and I decided to make a squishy sensory bag for John! I kept things very simple, but I may add a letter of the week when we do this again.  I got out a large baggie, pulled out a bottle…

What is Montessori? Tea pot water play!

I am trying my hand at defining some of the activities we are already doing at home. And I am initiating more of these activities according to the below (shortened by me) principles of Montessori. I was confused by Montessori at first. But 1plus1plus1equals1 and Counting Coconuts both make it seem less intimidating, and more…

Art is not something I’m familiar with. Growing up, I thrived in theater and music, but never art. Unfortunately, I always felt like “I wasn’t good” or “that’s not my thing.” I’m sad about this! Since homeschooling my children, I’ve come to realize that I’m indeed a wonderful artist!! I can draw plants and bumblebees and even an octopus! I just need a bit of time, good materials, and a good teacher.
