Kindergarten Catch Up Work
While I was teaching, many of my parents requested additional work for his/her child’s summer learning. These suggestions will help any parent wanting to help their child excel in kindergarten next year or catch up for first grade in the fall.
Workbooks, using Explode the Code workbooks, I suggest doing at least 2-3 pages a day:
- Explode the Code Books A, B, C (consonant phonics work)
- Explode the Code Books 1,1 ½ (vowel and consonant phonics work)
Phonics Readers, in order of difficulty, read at least one book, by Abeka, each day for 5 days until he has mastered each (and always remember to review):
- Little Books
- Little Owl Books
- Kindergarten Reader Package (the last four of this twelve-book set includes long vowels, if you’d like to begin long vowels, include Explode the Code Book 2; this will give your child a jumpstart into first grade)
Sight Words, read at least one story each day:
- ABC Kindergarten Sight Word Reader by Julie Rebboah
